Goddess from the Lost Planet – Editorial Review
Goddess from the Lost Planet by Neal Roberts is a well-written and fast-paced Archaeological Thriller & Science Fiction Adventure which would make a great movie. It’s a very solid read

The author mentions that his Publicist, Aurora Publicity, made him change the book genre from Historical Fiction to Science Fiction + Archaeological Thriller. This was a great decision. Goddess from the Lost Planet is an artfully written book which is a heady mix of Dan Brown Archaeological Thriller and Historical Alien Action & Adventure
Books Butterfly Editorial Review of Goddess from the Lost Planet by Neal Roberts
Introduction & Context
Goddess from the Lost Planet takes around 6 chapters before you really start getting a feel for the book. After that it is a very enjoyable thrill ride
This is a book that could have chosen to narrow itself to any one of
- Ancient Egyptian Historical Fiction
- Archaeological Thriller
- Science Fiction
- Alien Conspiracy Non Fiction
- Action & Adventure
Instead, the author mixes all these together and comes up with a book which is a great read
Main Review
Goddess from the Lost Planet is a blockbuster movie in book form (in a good way). After a slow start where the author tries to make the hero more relatable (which may or may not work for you), the book transforms into a really satisfying read with lots of excitement and adventure
The writing is intricate and simple at the same time. This requires a very high level of writing skill and makes the book a joy to read. It is interesting that the author was thinking of writing this book as a Historical Fiction novel earlier. The bar for Historical Fiction is very high and the author would have met that bar
The book being a mix of genres works for it. It’s quite fortunate because a disconcertingly high percentage of authors trying to combine genres make a total mess. This is a well crafted book which will appeal to readers across book genres
Perhaps the best thing I can say about the book is that the characters in this book were in my thoughts, both the waking ones and the sleeping ones. It is a book that will stay with you
Strengths
The writing is excellent. The story is fast paced and well thought out. The background of the Anunnaki (aliens from the Planet Nibiru) is very intriguing and will really draw you into the story
The characters are very alive and well characterized. Even the smaller supporting characters have panache and personality
The book itself moves at a rapid pace and entertains
There are a lot of moving parts, and they all fit in rather well as the story progresses. Really, this is quite an accomplishment as the book brings together different book genres and combines a lot of history and theory and science. The author molding everything into a congruent and coherent plot line is very impressive
Weaknesses
The book has its up and downs and you will have to put up with a slow start (power through the first 5/6 chapters to get to the good part)
There are some things that are rather unrealistic. Even for a Science Fiction Adventure set in 2034
Warning: Mini Spoilers. Skip these 3 points and jump to the Next Section (Conclusion) if you don’t want mini spoilers
- The Anunnaki had rules against killing sentient creatures. A dangerous race of Aliens have Principles that they won’t kill you? Makes them far less scary
- The female character seemed to be someone designed for the hero to fall in love with. From the first time she is introduced it is clear what the author intends her role in the story to be
- The Hero falls in love with the female lead after a couple of kisses. Frankly, that was absurd
Really, 80% of the problems with the book would disappear if the author stopped playing up the ‘Professor is barely over his dead wife and is so emotionally vulnerable’ angle. Interestingly enough, the normal interactions between the hero and the female lead are pretty amazing. It’s only when the author forces in a bit of insta-love romance that things start falling apart
Conclusion
Goddess from the Lost Planet is a really good read
It’s 90/100 if you like Archaeological Thrillers like the Dan Brown Novels
It’s 80/100 if you like Science Fiction Thrillers. Important Note: Please keep in mind that this book is more Archaeological Thriller/Adventure than Science Fiction
It’s 90/100 if you like Action & Adventure. You will have to get through the slower first 6 chapters before the book really takes off and turns into a thrill a minute adventure
Overall, it’s 85/100 for the general reader. It has universal appeal – Anyone who likes a well written novel, will love this book
Overall Recommendation
Very Strongly Recommended for anyone who likes Thrillers and Archaeological Thrillers. 90/100
Very Strongly Recommended for anyone who likes Action & Adventure. 90/100
Decent Read for anyone who likes Science Fiction Thrillers. 80/100
Strongly Recommended for anyone looking for a book that is a good read. 85/100
It’s a very good book. As it is a mix of genres it is worth reading a few chapters and making sure it’s your cup of tea. If it is, you will find it to be a very fine Darjeeling Tea
Curator’s Thoughts (not the reviewer, the curator)
The reviewer had a bit of a love-hate relationship with the book
There are some parts which made the reviewer want to pull their hair out – the insta-love; the Aliens who don’t kill Sentient life; the banter between the hero and the female lead
There are also parts which the reviewer absolutely loved – how well the book combined so much science, history, speculation into a cohesive whole; the thrill a minute nature of it after the 6th chapter; the travel across various locales; the description of the aliens’ technologies, the cool links to ancient history
On the whole, the book is a very good read. By going with Archaeological Thriller and Science Fiction Adventure the author has opened up the book’s commercial prospects massively. This would make a very good movie series or a Television series. With the relative shortage of good material, and the huge number of subscription services hungry for good books to build off of, the author should seriously pursue TV and Movie deals
We think any reader will enjoy the book. The writing skill level is very high and the book transports you very well into the story world. You almost feel a part of it and really get invested into the characters and the storyline
