Make No Provision by Alan Sharpe – Editorial Review
Make No Provision by Alan Sharpe is a Christian Daily Devotional Self Help book which helps Christian men struggling with pornography by taking a powerful and novel approach.
We really love that instead of portraying pornography as an addiction and painting the person as powerless, Mr. Sharpe treats pornography as a bad habit that can be unlearned.
Particularly powerful is Mr. Sharpe’s focus on six powerful words from The Bible – make no provision for the flesh.

We agree 100% with the author’s hypothesis that pornography is not an addiction. Pornography is a bad habit. A bad habit which is learned over time and a bad habit which can be un-learned.
Every person has the power in them to overcome their habit of watching pornography. Watching pornography is not an addiction and there is no such thing as ‘pornography addicts’.
Books Butterfly Editorial Review of Make No Provision by Alan Sharpe
Introduction & Context
Make No Provision is a daily devotional book written by Alan Sharpe for Christian men seeking to overcome pornography addiction. Sharpe’s personal journey toward sexual purity serves as inspiration for others, urging them to find victory in this area.
Main Review
Sharpe tackles the issue of pornography from a biblical perspective, asserting that it is not an addiction but rather a destructive habit with a compulsive grip on one’s life. Through education, encouragement, and challenges, he offers a guaranteed escape from pornography, emphasizing that God disapproves of it.
Sharpe suggests various methods to conquer pornography, such as employing a porn blocker, considering the consequences of adultery, recognizing the true cost of the destructive habit, avoiding smartphone temptations, fleeing from temptation, combating lust, seeking accountability, progressing in the journey, learning to walk in purity, and being honest and open.
The author is very frank and has a man to man conversation with the reader. This is very powerful and necessary.
Strengths
One of the book’s main strengths is Sharpe’s ability to delve deeply into the subject matter, enabling readers to abstain from sexual immorality and undergo transformation through the renewal of their minds. This process aligns with discerning the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.
Additionally, Sharpe provides preventive measures to be taken before temptation arises and offers biblical guidance on how to handle moments of temptation.
Furthermore, the author demonstrates his extensive knowledge and reading by referencing other respected authors throughout the book. This not only adds credibility to his work but also provides readers with ideas for further exploration through the quoted Bible verses.
Weaknesses
Make No Provision is completely focused on Christian men who struggle with their pornography habit. This makes the audience very specific and is both a strength and a weakness.
A secondary weakness/shortcoming is that it does not have any section for men who are tempted by pornography and don’t yet have it as a bad habit. Perhaps the author will add a section on that and/or write a book for such readers. It would be very powerful to help Christian men in danger of falling in the trap of pornography, BEFORE they actually fall into the trap.
Conclusion
Reading Make No Provision equips Christian brothers with the tools they need to achieve and maintain victory over pornography.
Given the destructive impact of pornography on individuals, marriages, families, and even church leaders’ careers, this book serves as a valuable resource in conquering this pervasive issue and living a purified life in accordance with God’s will.
Overall Recommendation
I highly recommend Make No Provision to Christian men battling the bad habit of pornography. Through biblical guidance, it challenges, mediates, educates, encourages, and inspires readers to overcome pornography on a daily basis.
100/100 for anyone battling a compulsion to watch pornography.
100/100 for family and loved ones of someone suffering from a pornography bad habit.
Please Note: The target audience of this book is very specific.
Curator’s Thoughts
This is a much needed book as it is very empowering for any Christian man suffering from a compulsion to watch pornography.
As opposed to books which take power out of the hands of men and paint men as ‘pornography addicts’ who are ‘powerless’, Mr. Sharpe’s book empowers Christian men to kick this bad habit of pornography by using a powerful biblical approach.
