Judged for Revenge starts with an intriguing murder – a dishonest policeman shot to death in his own office. It introduces two strong protagonists. The book is an interesting journey with the dislike/tension between the protagonists adding to the overall enjoyment of the story
The murdered policeman’s waywardness and corruption were an open secret so it is not a huge surprise when he ends up dead. The intrigue and thrills come from the fact that he seems to have a long list of enemies who want him dead
Detective Nicole Clayton, a female detective in a male-dominated field, is tasked with solving the murder. She has to work with another detective and they start off disliking each other and have to work around that friction to solve the murder
Detective Clayton combs through a web of an ever-growing list of suspects as she unearths the detective’s tumultuous romantic relationships and blatant abuse of power. Even though some male colleagues criticize Nicole’s ability to lead the investigation, she is committed to serving justice to the deceased. It does not help that most of the people who knew him thought he deserved to die
Incredible detective skills and an unlikely alliance lead Nicole to discover dirty secrets, hidden relationships, clues, and the novel builds up to a satisfying and surprising ending
Strengths
One strength of the book is that the main characters are well-developed. The characters’ personalities and behaviors are a realistic reflection of the backstories the author provides
An average reader would find one or more characters’ personalities and everyday experiences highly relatable
The book lives up to its subtitle – “a thriller with mystery and suspense”. The author takes the reader through a journey with unexpected twists and turns in pursuit of the killer. It is almost impossible to guess who the killer could be as every new suspect seems to have a solid motive for the crime
The suspense keeps the reader going, eager to know the true criminal, and the ending is just as satisfying

To some readers, the book may appear more police procedural than mystery and suspense. There is considerable mystery and suspense, and at the same time, the book is a Police Procedural at heart

We really love that instead of portraying pornography as an addiction and painting the person as powerless, Mr. Sharpe treats pornography as a bad habit that can be unlearned.
Particularly powerful is Mr. Sharpe’s focus on six powerful words from The Bible – make no provision for the flesh.
We agree 100% with the author’s hypothesis that pornography is not an addiction. Pornography is a bad habit. A bad habit which is learned over time and a bad habit which can be un-learned.
Every person has the power in them to overcome their habit of watching pornography. Watching pornography is not an addiction and there is no such thing as ‘pornography addicts’.

Voxinus wonders if his wounds and disappointments can ever be healed, both in his heart and in his forsaken existence. Losing an arm and precious time with his family pales in comparison to losing his purpose
However, Voxinus still retains a sense of honor, respecting men like Bovir from the woodlands, knowing that the Three Rivers insurrectionist may lack both values and foresight

In the backdrop, Colleen’s life is filled with profound sadness. First, she mourns the loss of her mother, notwithstanding the the pain of their strained relationship. Then, she becomes a widow while carrying a child. As if that were not enough, more tragedy awaits her in store
As she supports her pregnant daughter, Sandy, in organizing the house and tending to the baby clothes, Colleen discovers that Tony, her son-in-law, is suffering from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
Taking on the role of Tony’s caregiver, Colleen bears the weight of his deteriorating condition. Balancing babysitting duties, providing for Tony, and being there for Sandy, she sacrifices her own desires. Her commitment is not solely about salvaging their marriage or preventing Sandy from dwelling on regret
What Colleen truly craves is a close bond with her daughter. However, Tony’s illness threatens to shatter that connection, leaving Colleen to find solace in her job, her life, and her two sons

Anxiety and Depression often take us by surprise. We are usually ill prepared to deal with them. Dr. Ahmed helps the reader build a toolbox of 50 tools that can be used to get rid of anxiety and depression. The set of tools that will work for each individual reader might be different. However, having a toolbox of 50 tools empowers the reader to overcome anxiety and depression by picking whichever tools/habits work best for them
The author does a good job of explaining each of these 50 Habits/Tools. It is especially helpful that the habits/tools are from a wide variety of areas. This means that each reader can pick the tools that best suit them
Let’s say Jane believes strongly in mindfulness and energy. She can focus on mindfulness, removing toxic people from her life, and adding positive people to her life
Let’s say John believes strongly in traditional psychology and the importance of good health. He would focus on exercise, cognitive behavioral psychology, limiting alcohol, and eating a balanced diet
Let’s say Samantha believes in Eastern philosophies. She could focus on Yoga, Breathing Exercises, and Practicing Gratitude
It’s rather brilliant to have 50 different habits, derived/inspired from a multitude of healthcare disciplines. This gives each reader the choice of picking what they believe in, testing the habits in those areas, and then figuring out which habits work for them
There is one page dedicated to each habit, allowing the reader to become familiar with the habit. Please Note: To do a deep dive into an area you would need to get a book dedicated to this topic. Anxiety Rx is an introduction level book on therapies/solutions for anxiety and depression
Let’s discuss a couple of health related habits, to better understand what Anxiety RX covers. The author encourages readers to have a balanced diet and stay hydrated. This improves their mood, controls blood sugar, improves intestinal health, flushes out toxins, reduces inflammation and regulates hormones
Similarly, for each of the 50 Habits, Dr. Ahmed covers the habit and the benefits of each habit
Anxiety RX introduces readers to many good habits including – respecting themselves, avoiding negative people, managing their anger, managing their time, setting boundaries, forgive themselves and forgiving others
It really is a very ‘all hands on deck’/’let’s consider all possible ways to eliminate anxiety and depression’ approach – which is excellent because you need every ally you can get in your fight against depression and anxiety
Strengths
The writing is excellent and simple to understand. Despite covering a wide variety of topics the author is confident throughout and explains them very well
The author maintains a good flow of ideas and information. At no point is it overwhelming or confusion. That is impressive given it covers 50 different positive habits
The book is very empowering. Reading through 50 different methods/habits to overcome anxiety and depression gives readers confidence and hope. One of the biggest traps of depression and anxiety is the lack of hope. It’s very powerful when you start reading and realize there are not just one or two ways out – There are 50 different ways to get out of Depression & Anxiety
Weaknesses
While the book is very strong there are a few areas for improvement
Perhaps the biggest being that there is just one page per Habit. It would be good to have one chapter per Habit (admittedly, this would turn the book into an Encyclopedia)
It would have been nice to group the habits into Areas i.e. mindfulness, traditional therapy, new age therapy, holistic medicine, nature therapy, diet therapy, etc
There are no illustrations inside the book. The right illustrations (bright, beautiful, cheerful) can add a lot of color and cheer to a book, especially a book that fights depression and anxiety
Conclusion
Everyone’s path to Good Mental Health is different. It’s good to explore a few different paths (or a lot of different paths) before settling on a path that works very well for you
Anxiety RX does a splendid job of showing readers that there are 50 different habits/paths that can lead them out of Depression and Anxiety
Furthermore, it shows readers that Anxiety and Depression can be managed and even beaten with time. It gives a powerful message – asking for assistance is a sign of strength and there is always hope for a better tomorrow
We would recommend Anxiety Rx as a great starting guide to understand that there are a lot of paths/habits (50) to make your way out of Anxiety and Depression
At the same time we would remind the reader that after you have found The Right Path/Paths for You via Anxiety RX, you would need to find books that specialize in that particular path. Perhaps one in-depth book for each path/habit you choose

A similar way of dividing up by positive versus negative, or by mindsets versus habits would have been helpful
There are no ‘exercises’ or other means to cement the lessons of each chapter in readers’ minds
